I have been printing my work on metal for nearly 20 years. If you like to the look of the images on your computer screen, seeing a print in person will really impress you. I am asked daily if they are backlit because the quality of the pieces are unbelievable. Metal prints are very durable and can take the beating of a modern home. If you get fingerprints on it, they wipe right off, and can be bumped without worry of damage.

We offer a gloss finis and a matte finish. The image looks the exact same on both styles but the texture is quite different. The gloss finish offers a little bit of pop and flash as it shines like a polished Porsche. The gloss finish does show reflections, but that’s only at the perfect angle at the right time of day so I always suggest getting the style you like rather than over thinking how it works in a room. The Matte finish on the the other hand show no reflection at all. It’s all image from every angle. Matte has a very soft feel that compliments a lot of contemporary spaces. They both look just as good as the other so its simply the style you prefer.

We offer our standard sizes a listed below but if you need something custom, or have a vision, just let us know and we are happy to adjust.

  • Gloss vs Matte

Gloss finish offers vibrant colors and sharp details with a reflective surface that enhances brightness, making images appear more dynamic. However, it can produce glare under certain lighting conditions. Matte finish art provides a non-reflective surface with softer tones and reduced glare, creating a more subtle and elegant look ideal for casual viewing or spaces with bright light.

  • Box vs Float

A float mount gives the piece a modern, sleek look by suspending the image slightly away from the wall, creating a subtle shadow and depth.

A box mount, on the other hand, enhances the print with a solid black edge, This adds a more substantial look. If your space has black finishes, this option will work well. A box mount is an additional $250 for all sizes.

About the Photography

Most of the time I make an image, it is something I have scouted, visited and completely pre-visualized. Rarely do I go for a drive and see what I find. Once I create the image in my mind, I find the location, and narrow in all the details. I decide what light I will need, sunrise, sunset or midday. Then I decide the season, which is usually dictated on foliage color and snow. Lastly, I always visit the location beforehand so that there are no unforeseen situations. I often arrive at locations long before the sun has come up so knowing where I am going is crucial.

The photographing of an image is relatively uneventful. Anyone who has thought they wanted to come with me has usually become bored and regretted their decision pretty quick. I only shoot for about an hour, half hour before the good light and a half hour after. Location and composition adjustments are made on the fly due to shifting conditions, but because of heavy preparation, there aren’t a lot of surprises.

I currently use a Fuji GFX medium format camera. Medium format means it has an oversized sensor which not only provides more detail, but the image processing is next to nothing. The files come out of the camera looking pristine. With a slight contrast adjustment and minimal color balancing, the digital file is sized and sent to print.

The image is then printed on dye sublimation transfer paper using a wide format sublimation printer. This print is flipped, looks quite dull and is very unimpressive compared to the final product. We place the transfer sheet face down onto a sheet of treated aluminum and slide it into a massive heat press. We heat the press up to 450 degrees which infuses the dyes on the transfer print into the metal via sublimation. Similar to how you apply a temporary tattoo. Once the piece is cooled, I inspect the print to assure there are no flaws or imperfections. I now approve the piece, sign and number it and record the piece in my gallery records. The piece is now complete and hung on the wall of my gallery.
