The Essence of Summer

Anyone who has spent a summer in the Sierra knows how amazingly beautiful they are. This moment at fallen Leaf Lake, brought me as close as I have ever felt to heaven. While waiting on the shores of this high Sierra lake for the sun to dip below the horizon, I felt as if I were in a heavenly state. Across the lake I could hear a group of friends laughing loud and singing folk songs. Below me I heard the waves of this lake breaking upon the shore. The blue light of dusk blanketed the sky and the cool mountain air blew through my hair. The faint sound of a lone banjo echoed through the wooded shores only to be interrupted by the whisping sound of a fly fisherman just down shore of me. This was it! This was as close as I have ever been to heaven. I finally realized what it was about the high country summers that I held so dearly to my heart. It was the smells, sounds and feelings of everything that really makes up life and what makes usfeel alive all coming together and beaming in unison.
