Just north of San Francisco there is the small community of Sausalito. A beautiful town with great people, culture and a quaint yet happening downtown home to many beautiful galleries and restaurants. I love to stop by there in my Bay Area travels and I especially enjoy photographing these old piles. The lighting is extremely different because you shoot from a dock where the restaurant behind you is lighting the piles ever so faintly and then you have the foggy light mixed with the east bay city lights. If you time it correctly, you can come up with some very different images... like this one.
