Moonrise at Sunset Location: Sentinel Rock, Ca Field Notes: Canon EOS 1, 400mm 1/160 sec @ f/2.8 ISO 50 ____________________________________________ This was my dog Sadie's first trip to Yosemite and I could tell she was excited. So excited that she left me a treat in the back seat of may car and decided to clean it up by rolling around in it. I knew it was the beginning of a great trip... As the week went on, Sadie and I went everywhere in the park (everywhere dogs are allowed at least). She was having a blast and so was I, but I wasn't very happy with my pictures. It wasn't until the last day when we were driving towards the exit of the park when I saw the full moon sitting well above Sentinel Rock. I grabbed my gear and took off up an old rock slide to try to make an interesting composition using the other side of the valley. The sun was going down fast and I knew the exposure would be ruined unless I had the bright sunset light on the rock to match the brightness of the moon. By the time I had climbed to the point where I made this image I was so exhausted that I could barely breath and I was soaked with sweat. I fired off some shots and the sun went down. As I scrambled back down the mountain all I could do was hope Sadie hadn't left me another congratulations present in the car as puppies often do. When I returned to the car sure enough she jumped on me and gave me a different sloppy wet present on the face. It was such a beautiful night that I decided to stay another day and we sat and watched the stars come out together in a meadow.
