The neat thing about this morning was how fast the weather was changing. Literally a half hour before I made this image in the Maripo=yesrove of big trees, I was drinking coffee in my car waiting out a rather heavy snow storm. As the snow slowed and I hiked to a spot I had scouted the day before, the snow melted at an incredible rate. Once I reached this spot, the snow was nearly gone and the sky was opening, pouring out beam of sunlight. When the shutter was tripped on this image the sun was behind a cloud but half way through the exposure, the sky opened throwing harsh light on the redwoods. I figured this image would be blown out and kept on firing away making more and more images. To my great surprise when I finally saw the images rather than causing the trees to be blown out it filled in the shadows and brought out the beautiful color of the soaking wet redwoods.
