I was in what I call a “photographic slump” when I found this image in the winter of 2007. I had been to Yosemite well over twenty five days with no promising photographs. That winter was extremely dry with only a handful of major storms. Luckily, I was in the valley when one of them hit, and as is often time the case, the storm cleared at sunrise. I had set out to El Capitan Meadow to pursue an image I had created in my “mind’s eye”. When I was unsuccessful in finding what I was looking for, I set off to see if I could find something else that sparked my interest.
When I came across this scene, I honestly didn’t think much of it. I set up, made some photographs, then packed up and continued looking for more interesting images. Even when I did a rough edit of that days photos, I still thought it was nice, but nothing out of the usual.
It wasn’t until a few weeks later when I was looking through all my images from the month that my jaw dropped and I realized I was finally out of my “slump”.
